CamPow Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information [CamPow Entity Name] ("CamPow," "we," "us") collects when you use the CamPow application and website (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It also explains something unusual about how CamPow works that affects your privacy: the cameras you watch are not ours, and your device connects to them directly.
1. The short version
- CamPow is a guide. When you tune to a camera, your device loads the video straight from the camera owner's servers. We never see, store, or process the video, and neither does anyone acting for us.
- Because of that, the camera owner's servers see your connection (your IP address and device type), the same as if you had opened their website.
- CamPow itself collects a limited amount of usage and diagnostic data to run and improve the app: which channels are viewed and for how long, crash reports, and device/app information. We don't collect names, emails, or accounts unless you choose to give them to us.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising ("sell" and "share" as California law defines them). We do disclose it to the service providers that help us run the app, and in the other limited situations described in Section 6.
2. Information CamPow collects
2.1 Usage and diagnostic data (collected automatically)
- Device and app information: device type and model, operating system and version, app version, language, screen resolution, and an identifier used to count unique installs and remember your settings (see 2.4 for how that identifier works on each platform).
- Usage events: which channels you view, when, and for how long; guide interactions (favorites, searches, channel changes); feature usage.
- Network information: your IP address (used to approximate your region for guide ordering, such as showing nearby cameras first, and for abuse prevention), connection type, and coarse performance metrics (buffering events, load times).
- Crash and error reports: technical logs generated when the app malfunctions, which may include device state and the last actions taken in the app.
We do not collect precise geolocation from your device unless you explicitly enable a location feature, in which case we will ask first.
2.2 Information you give us
- Support and requests: If you contact us, submit a Camera Exclusion Request, report a camera, send a copyright notice, or sign up for updates, we receive what you send (typically name, email, organization, and your message), along with the IP address the request came from, which we keep for abuse prevention.
- Account information (if applicable): [If CamPow offers accounts or subscriptions: email, password hash, subscription status. Payments are handled by the app platform or a payment processor; CamPow does not receive card numbers.]
2.3 Information we do not collect
- No video. We do not receive, store, cache, analyze, or record any camera stream, frames, or audio. There is no facial recognition, license-plate reading, motion detection, or other analysis of video anywhere in the Service.
- No microphone, camera, or contacts access on your device.
- No cross-app tracking for advertising, and no advertising identifiers are collected for ad purposes. [COUNSEL: revisit if ads are ever introduced.]
2.4 Identifiers, by platform
The identifier we use to recognize an installation differs by platform, and each platform gives you controls over it. [Engineering to confirm the exact identifier used on each shipped platform before publishing; delete rows for platforms not shipped.]
| Platform | Identifier CamPow uses | Your control |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV / iOS | Vendor identifier (IDFV) or an app-generated install ID. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). | Reinstalling the app resets it. |
| Android TV / Google TV / Fire TV | App-generated install ID. We do not use the Android/Amazon advertising ID. | Reinstalling the app resets it. Platform "limit ad tracking" settings are respected. |
| Roku | App-generated install ID. We do not use the Roku advertising identifier (RIDA) for tracking. | Reinstalling the channel resets it. |
| Samsung / LG / other smart TV | App-generated install ID. | Reinstalling the app resets it. |
| Web (campow.tv) | First-party cookie or local-storage token for settings. | Clearing site data resets it. See Section 5 for cookies. |
2.5 Software development kits and service providers
The app includes the following third-party SDKs or services, which receive the data described. [Engineering/Founder to complete before publishing. Delete rows not used.]
| Provider | Purpose | Data received | Provider's policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| [Analytics provider] | Usage analytics | Install ID, usage events, device info, IP (truncated: [Y/N]) | [link] |
| [Crash reporting provider] | Crash and error reports | Device info, crash logs, install ID | [link] |
| [Hosting / CDN provider] | Serves the guide data and website | IP address, request logs | [link] |
| [Support/email provider] | Handles support and exclusion requests | What you send us | [link] |
| [Video player library] | Plays streams on-device | Runs locally; sends requests only to the camera owner's servers, not to the library vendor [confirm] | [link] |
3. How camera owners and their vendors receive your information
When you tune to a camera, the CamPow app on your device requests the video directly from the camera owner's server (or a video-hosting vendor the owner uses). That request includes your IP address and device/user-agent information, and, depending on the platform and how the owner's player is built, may include cookies or similar identifiers that the owner's or vendor's server previously set on your device (this is most likely on the web version and when a camera uses an embedded web player, and least likely for direct video streams on TV platforms). The camera owner and their vendor receive and handle that information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Each channel's information panel shows the owner's name and website so you can review their policies.
CamPow does not share your identity or your CamPow usage data with camera owners. What they receive is only what your device sends as part of loading the stream.
4. How we use information
- To operate the Service: load the guide, remember your favorites and settings, and order channels by relevance (including approximate region).
- To improve it: understand which cameras and features are used, diagnose crashes, and measure performance.
- To communicate with you when you contact us or opt in to updates.
- To respond to camera owners, privacy concerns, copyright notices, legal requests, and abuse.
- To comply with law and protect CamPow, camera owners, and users.
We do not use your information for targeted advertising and do not build profiles about you based on the cameras you watch.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
- App (TV and mobile): The app does not use browser cookies. It stores settings and an install identifier locally on your device.
- Website (campow.tv): We use strictly necessary first-party cookies or local storage for settings and, if you opt in, analytics cookies from the provider listed in 2.5. We do not use advertising cookies.
- Camera owners' players: As described in Section 3, an owner's or vendor's player may set or read its own cookies when it loads on your device. We do not control those.
6. How we share information
We share personal information only with:
- Service providers listed in Section 2.5, under contracts that limit their use of the data to our purposes.
- App platforms (Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, Samsung, LG, and similar), which collect their own data under their own policies when you install and use apps from their stores.
- Legal and safety recipients, when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
- A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law.
7. Aggregate camera statistics
We may publish or share aggregated, non-identifying statistics (for example, "the [Resort] summit cam was the most-watched camera in California in January") with camera owners, partners, or the public. These never identify individual viewers.
8. Your choices and rights
- Analytics opt-out: [If offered: You can disable usage analytics in Settings → Privacy.]
- Reset: Reinstalling the app resets the install identifier and clears locally stored settings.
- Access, correction, deletion: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by contacting [privacy@campow.tv]. We will verify requests using the information you provide (typically by matching your install identifier or the email you contacted us from) and respond within the time required by law.
- Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track: On the campow.tv website we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information; because we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are defined under California law), there is no such activity to opt out of, and we honor the signal by not enabling optional analytics cookies for that browser. The signal does not affect the disclosures to service providers described in Section 6, which are necessary to run the Service. TV and mobile platforms do not currently transmit GPC signals to apps. We do not respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, for which there is no accepted standard. [COUNSEL]
- Authorized agents: You may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf; we may ask for proof of authorization.
California residents
This section supplements the rest of the Policy for California residents under the CCPA/CPRA.
| Category of personal information | Collected? | Sources | Purpose | Shared with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers (install ID, IP address, email if you contact us) | Yes | You; your device | Operate and improve the Service; respond to requests | Service providers (2.5); app platforms; camera owners receive your IP only as described in Section 3 |
| Internet or network activity (channels viewed, guide interactions, performance metrics) | Yes | Your device | Operate and improve the Service | Service providers (2.5) |
| Geolocation (approximate, from IP) | Yes | Your device | Guide ordering; abuse prevention | Service providers (2.5) |
| Commercial information (subscription status) | [If applicable] | You; app platform | Provide the subscription | App platform; payment processor |
| Sensitive personal information — precise geolocation | Only if you turn on a location feature (off by default) | Your device | Only to provide the feature you turned on, such as sorting cameras by distance from you | Service providers (2.5) only as needed to provide that feature |
| Sensitive personal information — all other categories (government ID, account credentials, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, union membership, contents of communications not directed to us, genetic or biometric data, health, sex life or sexual orientation) | No | — | — | — |
| Biometric, audio/visual, health, or inferences from video | No | — | — | — |
Use of sensitive personal information. If you turn on a location feature, we use your precise geolocation only to provide that feature and for no other purpose, we do not use it to infer characteristics about you, and we neither sell it nor share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (we disclose it only to the service providers in Section 2.5 as needed to run that feature). Because we use it only as reasonably necessary to provide the feature you requested, we do not offer a separate "limit the use of my sensitive personal information" control; turning the feature off in Settings stops collection. [Delete the precise-geolocation row and this paragraph if no location feature ships in Season 1.]
We retain each category for the periods in Section 10. We disclose personal information to service providers and others only as described in Section 6. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising ("sell" and "share" as those terms are defined under California law), and we have not done either in the preceding 12 months. You have the right to know, delete, correct, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise them, use the contact in Section 14 or [toll-free number — required only if CamPow operates exclusively online and has a direct relationship with the consumer; counsel to confirm whether the email-only method suffices].
How we handle your request. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days, which we may extend once by a further 45 days with notice to you. We verify requests by matching the information you provide (such as the email address you contacted us from or your install identifier) against our records; we will not ask for more information than we need to verify you.
If we deny your request. If we decline all or part of a request, we will tell you why in writing. You may appeal by replying to that decision or writing to [privacy@campow.tv] with "Appeal" in the subject line within 45 days. A different person from the one who made the original decision will review the appeal, and we will respond within 45 calendar days with our decision and the reasons for it. If we deny your appeal, you may contact the California Attorney General or the California Privacy Protection Agency, or the attorney general of your state, and we will tell you how.
Residents of other U.S. states
If you live in a state with a comprehensive privacy law (for example Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, or another state that has enacted one), you have rights that are substantially the same as those described above: to confirm whether we process your personal data, to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of it, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling (none of which we do). The request process, verification method, response time, and appeal process described in the California section apply to you as well, and after an unsuccessful appeal you may contact your state's attorney general. [COUNSEL: confirm CamPow is below the applicability thresholds in each state for Season 1, or keep this section live; add EU/UK provisions before any non-U.S. launch.]
9. People who appear on camera
CamPow lists cameras that show public places: roads, slopes, town centers, and similar. We do not operate the cameras and cannot change what they show. If you believe a camera listed on CamPow shows you, your home, or your property in a way that concerns you, you can contact the camera owner directly (their name and website are shown on the channel) and/or submit a Privacy Concern at campow.tv/exclude. We review these promptly and can remove the camera from the CamPow guide even though we cannot stop the owner's stream. We do not share your identity with the camera owner.
10. Data retention
| Data | Retained |
|---|---|
| Usage and diagnostic data in identifiable form | [13 months], then deleted or aggregated |
| Crash logs | [90 days] |
| Support, exclusion, privacy-concern, and copyright-notice correspondence and case records (including the IP a request came from) | [3 years] after the last action, so we can demonstrate that requests were honored |
| Camera-source records, including the owner's public contact details and dated screenshots of the owner's public web page showing that a camera was published for public viewing | Life of the listing plus [3 years] |
| Account data (if applicable) | Until you delete your account, plus [30 days] |
Screenshots in the camera-source records are of the owner's web page, never of the camera stream, and are retained as evidence of how a camera was published.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
13. International users
CamPow is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the U.S. [COUNSEL: expand before non-U.S. launch.]
